Research

The Department of Dermatology is committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of skin disorders through innovative research. Clinical research on conditions such as non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancer, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, genodermatoses, and inflammatory disorders is a major focus. Our faculty are also actively engaged in other diverse fields, including hair follicle disorders, fibrosis, wound healing, inflammatory skin disorders, and drug reactions that affect the skin.

In addition to clinical research, we are dedicated to basic science research aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of skin development and regeneration. Structural biology is another research focus that continues to expand. We are committed to translating its findings into new and more effective treatments for patients with skin disorders and actively promoting collaborations among clinicians and basic scientists to achieve this goal.

Our faculty are world-renowned leaders in their respective fields of research who continue to make significant contributions to advancing our knowledge of skin disorders. By combining excellence in clinical care with cutting-edge research, Yale is leading the way to advance the field of dermatology and improve the lives of patients with skin disorders.

Yale SPORE in Skin Cancer

The overall goals of the Yale SPORE in Skin Cancer (YSPORE-SC) are to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of melanomas. The overriding themes are to reveal biomarkers and targets for therapy based on information from analyses of Next-Generation DNA sequencing (NGS), genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. The YSPORE-SC is currently supported by Administrative Supplement to bridge the one-year gap for our new competitive renewal application.
